Hill Race Championship heats up!

Things are heating up in this year's hill race champioship. With three races to go, it's neck and neck between Craig Love and Steve Matthews both on 33 points. In the over 40s Dave Mitchell is out in front and in the over 50s it's also neck and neck between Dave Hanlon and Phil Forte; both on 17 points. Charlie is way out in front in the over 60s category and Steve Cromar (predictably) is leading the over 70s. Lyn Hanlon is leading the female category on 18 points.

The latest standings are here.

Hawks all over Glenshee

Glenshee 9 (8 August 2010)

Six Hardy Hawks took part in the Glenshee 9 race, one of the toughest hill races in Scotland with 33 km (21 miles) over 9 Munros. The clag lifted soon after the start and the conditions were near-perfect, resulting in fine performances of all Hawks. Charly Love was 2nd over-60 with a PB for the course in 5:34:35 (also last over-60, but that just goes to show it was an elite field), Dave Mitchell was 54th with a PB of 4:42:12, Steve Matthews ran a great race for 38th place in 4:25:09 and Roger van Gompel was 19th in 3:53:43. Following his impressive win in Friday’s Race for Sweets at Dundee Riverside, Craig Love had another excellent race, breaking his PB by more than 1.5 hour (!) to bring it down to a more appropriate 4:07:27 (24th). Finally, Paul Leonard clocked an incredible time of 4:25 on his fancy Garmin (though the official results tell us that he finished in 5:06:50).

Sportsmans Dinner

The annual Sportsman's Dinner will be held in the Invercarse Hotel on Wednesday 22nd September. DHH has benifited substantially from this event over the years, including a £2000 donation to the club last year. This money helps with our affiliation to varios bodies - including Kingdom Athletics.

This year many of the members who normally attend cannot make it and the committee want to ensure that we have a table presence at this year's event. We have decided therefore that the club will subsidise table tickets by 50% meaning each ticket will cost £30. A maximum of 10 tickets will be subsidised by the club. A full dinner, after dinner speeches and auction are included

Currently we have Dave Hanlon, Phil Forte, Nigel Reynolds, Ian Silver (if not on holiday) willing to attend.

It is a black tie event so formal evening attire is required. If you are interested, please contact Phil Forte at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before the end of August.

White Tops Race a success

After rescuing this race from death it was always a risk taking it on, but a healthy field of 53 runners from all over Scotland proved that people want this race to continue and so it will.

SAM_0233

Fine conditions on the night meant fast times were on the cards and the race was won by Oleg Chepelin of Shettleston in 33.48. Veronica Oldham (Cosmics) took the ladies title in 39.33. Adrian Davis (Carnethy) was 1st male vet and and Jacqui Higginbottom (Carnethy) was 2nd female and also 2nd Vet. Martin Laing (Fife AC) was 1st over 50, Tom Scott (Fife AC ) 1st over 60 and our own Stevie Cromar was 1st over 70. Jocelyn Scott (Fife AC) was 1st female supervet. The Hawks (Craig Love, Paul Leonard, Ian McNulty) were 1st team narrowly beating Fife by 2 points.
