[22 Jun 09] :: Rescued Dundee Half Marathon 2009
Firstly let me say congratulations and thanks to Nicholas Kydd of Eventful for picking up the pieces of the Dundee Half and giving us a well organised, unusual and challenging race on what turned out to be a beautiful mid-summers day. The race led out from Camperdown house and the runners soon found themselves on what turned out to be a surprising climb up through Templeton Woods to Clatto before levelling out and heading onto the roads. The race followed the Green Circular Cycle track for the better part of the 13.1 miles with a few twist turns and hills in unexpected places, overall [...continue]
[19 Jun 09] :: Of Midgies and Men
At the Ben Sheann race at Strathyre on Wednesday night, the fast start and finish had nothing to do with the flat road but more to do with the cloud of Midgies which arrived looking for rich pickings from bare arms and legs of the runners gathering for the race. This race is perhaps more famous for the little critters than the tough, pure hill race which it is. Only 4K in length but with a cruel 1500 ft climb and scary descent this is hill running in its purest form. Results have not been published yet but Craig Love was 1st Hawk home followed by myself, then Ally Main, Charlie Love and [...continue]
[25 May 09] :: National Junior League, Grangemouth
| Ten Hawks athletes competed alongside athletes from Fife AC and Pitreavie as part of the Kingdom Athletic under 20 team in the 2nd round match on Sunday. Highlights included two more club records. Sarah Kelly set her 2nd record of the month in winning the 1500m in 4:26.33, a new club under 17 record. This also heads the UK under 17 rankings. Ryan Knight smashed his pb when winning the javelin with 58.78 metres almost 3 metres further than his previous best. This performance won him the Male Athlete of the Match award. | [18 May 09] :: New Womens Club Records |
In the opening weeks of the new season 2 club records have been set in the under 17 women age group. On 19th April Aeron Mellish threw 35.85 metres at Grangemouth to break the javelin record which had stood since 1995. On 9th May Sarah Kelly took almost 2 seconds off her own record when winning the Scottish under 17 closed championship 800m at Wishaw in 2:9.16.

Two of the team competitions the club take part in are the Halliburton League and the Scottish Young Athletes league (up to under 17 age group). Team Managers / assistants are urgently needed to co-ordinate team selection and the smooth running of the team on the day. This is currently carried out by club coaches who, in addition to this role are usually officiating at these meetings.
There are 4 meeting through the summer in both leagues and we would be delighted to hear from any parents willing to assist.
