Devils Burdens Relay

We fielded 4 teams at this year's Devils Burdens Relays; fast becoming a classic ealy season hill race. Unfortunately on the day, there were a few no-shows resulting in three of us needing to run two of the 4 legs, which inevitably slows down the team. Nevertheless our Seniors team were 16th overall (13th in the seniors category); our Vets team were 6th Vets team(27th overall); the Supervets team were 3rd (49th overall) and our allstars team were 4th in the early starters category and 91st overall. The weather was kind to us with most of the snow and ice thawing before Saturday.

Harriers V Cyclists

This year's annual Harriers V Cyclists race took place on a very snowy Caird Park; probably the main reason for the victory for the Harriers. There was a good turnout of both Harriers and Cyclists and Jamie Crowe was the overall winner. The condictions were very tricky underfoot (under tyres) but the event was enjoyed by all who took part. Former Club President Jim Penman has died

It is with regret that we have heard that form club President, Jim Penman has died at the age Jim was President of the Hawks for 8 years in the late 80's and early 90's during a period which saw considerable success for the club and a burgeoning membership. Jim was originally from Rosyth and spent much of his working life as a police constable in Dundee. He played rugby, football and cricket for the police and was the Scottish junior javelin champion in his youth. He became involved with the Hawks upon his retirement. Jim was also a member of Pitlochry and Panmure golf clubs. He is survived by Eleanor and children Kenneth and Carol.

News for the seniors

Hawks Flying Dutchman Second at Clova - Despite having beaten the Clova winner, Steven Reid of Fife AC, in the Templeton Ten a couple of weeks ago where Roger was 6th, the Hawks own Flying Dutchman, Roger Van Gompel, came second to Steven in Saturdays Glen Clova Half Marathon with 78.56 on the clock. Conditions were slightly less drookit than Templeton but it was mild, with a wee tail wind to help runners back down the glen after the halfway turn. Perhaps the highlight of Rogers day was the delights of Scottish cuisine - stovies are laid on at the Clova Hotel for the finishers and Roger was
